Multnomah County Jail

Telephones

Interview with Milles

JM: Did you have regular access to telephones?
Milles: i had access to telephones. but it was restricted to the one hour a day we got to be out of the cell. it would have been nice to have the ability to call people that were not near a phone during that hour of the day.

JM: What types of charges applied for calling people?
Milles: it was expensive. all calls were dialed collect. there was a connection fee plus outrageously high prices per minute.

JM: Did you need to buy phone cards to call out?
Milles: no i just had to dial collect.

JM: Did the jail screen your calls?
Milles: there was a recording that said all calls were monitored and recorded, so i think that they screened them.
